Kiran Rao has lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell in Mumbai against an impersonator who has created her fake Facebook accounts.
Sources (India Times) claimed that Kiran had submitted a written application to the cyber police, complaining that after some of her friends told her about a series of chats on Facebook and she had no idea about any of the chats. It was after Kiran herself visited the fake profile and found that somebody had uploaded her picture as her profile photo and impersonated as Kiran Rao. A police officer told media, “After going through her application, we have registered an offence and have started the investigation.”
“The impersonator can be easily identified by the police from his IP address and apprehended. However, if the impersonator does mischief from outside India, it is nearly impossible to catch him and put him to trial under the provisions of the Information Technology Act or for cheating… However the actor can, in addition, file a case of civil damages against the impersonator.”
And Mumbai Cyber Crime Department will reach to facebook authorities to block that Account.
